Shanghai + Suzhou in 2 Days

The high-speed train makes Suzhou a 30-minute hop from Shanghai Hongqiao, which is why this pairing works over a single weekend. Day one covers Shanghai's waterfront and old city, including the Bund after dark. Day two starts on an early train and gives Suzhou's gardens a full, unhurried day.

Before you set the days

Walking and access

This is two full days with an early train after the Bund evening. The Suzhou day combines a garden and two streets, so it is not the version to extend with a water town.

Rain

A Suzhou garden still works in light rain because of its covered walks. Use extra care on rock and canal paving, and keep the museum as the hard-rain option when it is open.

Closures

Suzhou Museum and the Garden Museum close on Mondays even though the gardens remain scheduled to open. On Monday, keep the garden and street and remove the museum from the outset.

If the plan changes

If the Humble Administrator's Garden is unavailable, substitute the Lingering Garden, Lion Grove or Master of the Nets. Shantang Street remains the evening anchor.

    Bund Night Walk

    A local guide walks you along the Bund after dark — the lit-up Pudong skyline, the historic waterfront façades, and the stories behind them. English-led, max 8 guests. Ends at 20:30, in good time for an early start.
